Future of a nation depends upon
the youth. Unfortunately, in Pakistan youth is being trapped in agnostic
misapprehension. Not only they are unable to decide their course of actions,
but also unaware of the path they are following. Their life is directed on this
particular path for multiple reasons: lack of understanding of religion,
adherence of abstruse ideologies, socio-political conditions and suppression of
emotions and desires.
Human being is considered by
Sigmund Freud as an irrational being. Belief-subjective in nature-is what
appeal to one's rational. Once, one assume or accept something to be true,
automatically becomes the part of his belief. Belief is the foundation of every
religion. Religion provides a code of conduct. The problem with our youth is
that they are adhering to something which they don't understand. Hence, they
tend to question their belief.
They start questioning, after an
alternative ideology is being exposed to them. Nihilism-nothing matter- is
usually their first adventure. Everything around us; is good for what? Reins of
their mind become out of their control. Then, one day like Dostoyevsky, they
find the meaning of life in a dream. After finding the meaning of life, they
start advocating for the rights of the deprived: women, labor and
minority. Feminism, Marxism and
Liberalism become the guiding principles of their lives. Somehow, undermining
the code of conduct they were supposed to follow-in the form of their religion.
Finally this adventurism lead them towards the day dreaming of atheism. They
assume everything has a cause and effect, if God is the cause of everything, then
what is the cause of the God. This confusion is not solved yet, that they enter
into the next phase of their lives.
When they find their society-as a
trap-manipulated by those in power for their own interests. Religion being sold
by the one-who pretend to be the preacher. Women are harassed and forced to opt
for the oldest occupation of the world-Prostitution. They classify the strata
of the society among the haves and haven't. They find every member of the
society as a fake pretender, hiding their true faces and intentions. In such a
condition of ambivalence, conservative class of the society declares them to be
nonbelievers. Crashing their last hope of recovery.
As youth enjoys the epic of their
body strength, therefore, their emotions and desires are beyond their control.
They are unable to understand the relevance of a civilization and its
standards. They become rebels; not willing to play game by their rules. Firming
their stance and become stubborn to give up on their beliefs. They start abhorring
this double faced society in which few are capable of realizing every desire,
while the majority is not able to fulfill their basic needs.
To ask questions is not a bad
thing but not to accept an answer is. They question their existence, morality
and God. They get their answers from the surrounding. Instead of accepting an
answer, they question that answer. At certain level it is wise to question
everything, only to seek an answer in reward. The problem arises, when one ask
question because of irritation and constant suppression of emotions.
Peace of their mind is missing
because of this agnostic approach. To have peace with oneself is the most
rewarding thing in this universe. One learns, how to live his life by making
peace with oneself. Here, one have to differentiate between the blind adherence
and adherence with reason. Here, Rumi can guide the one who is the seeker, if
he is willing to accept.
According to him, God created the
pure body of Adam. Out of the sea of His omnipotence, God directed Gabriel to
present these three pearls: reason, humility and belief, to Adam. Let him
choose only one. Adam chose the reason. Gabriel wanted to bring back rest of
the two. They were too heavy for him to carry now. The pearls said; we are
inseparable from the holy company of reason. As we are the pearls of the God
sea of omnipotence, therefore, we have to live together. God then ordered
Gabriel, let the pearls be with him. Hence, reason was set on the head, belief
in the holy heart and humility on the face of Adam.
Today, there is reason, but
belief and humility is missing in the majority of youth. They lost the legacy
of their father. Therefore, it would be wise to reclaim them and put them where
they belong. This will also help in getting out of the trap of agnostic
misapprehension.
